Cormorant Scaring Mannequin Replaced For A Day With Living Mannequin Scarecrow

Living Mannequin Experiment

The goal here was to help make the cormorants wary of the scarecrow mannequins again. This interesting experiment involved replacing a traditional mannequin with a living mannequin dressed and made-up to look exactly like the original mannequin and pretending to be a mannequin scarecrow. The initial movement surprised the cormorants, highlighting the advantage of changing tactics to prevent habituation.

The living scarecrow mannequin stayed in character whilst being placed where the scarecrow used to be, and stayed mainly motionless; then when a cormorant flew over, the living scarecrow would come to life and move, then freeze again.In one experiment the living mannequin fired a starter pistol
